What do you think about when you think about Wyoming? Cowboys? Vast expanses? Free-roaming buffalo? Sure, it has all the above – and then some. For instance, the pristine, untouched vibe of the landscape. It’ll make you wonder, how come more people don’t think “Wyoming” when they think “getaway”? We can tell you this: you will not run out of things to do when you discover Grand Teton National Park.
Some of the most beautiful of these landscapes and activities to match are preserved within the two National Parks in Wyoming: Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
Of course, of the two, Yellowstone is the most famous:
- First place to become a National Park
- Sits atop the one of the world’s largest calderas and super-volcanoes
Yellowstone earned national park status in March 1872.
While Yellowstone’s popularity can’t be denied, Grand Teton National Park isn’t exactly off the well-beaten path. Maybe it’s not touted so much as Yellowstone because visitors are inspired not to overshare? The park saw nearly 3.5 million visitors in 2019 alone. Lending credence to its popularity are wild, jagged peaks scraping the sky, wildlife abundance, picture-perfect sunsets, and bodies of water of every shade of blue. With all this and the activities you’d expect, if anyone tells you Teton is overrated, beg to differ.
Okay, so what can you do in Grand Teton? Well, you won’t have to worry about boredom. If you’re only staying a few days, choose your activities wisely. Even if you have as much as a couple weeks, you still won’t run out of things to do. There are multiple lakes in Teton of every shape and size, such as Delta Lake (a glacial body of water you’ll have to climb to get to) and Jenny Lake which is super easy to access.
Just one of the lakes in Teton, Jackson Lake, allows motorized boats. All of Teton’s lakes allow non-motorized boats and swimming.
Want to get out on the water but you have no gear? Consider a kayak or canoe rental. You can find rentals in the park or in nearby Jackson Hole or Moose, Wyoming.
Don’t overlook this national park when you are planning a trip to Wyoming. Get out there and discover Grand Teton National Park.
