The Best Hotels in the US for Real Relaxation

The Best Hotels in the US for Real Relaxation

Sometimes we choose our destination for the activities and the location, and where we’ll stay is more of an afterthought than a reason for our getaway. These hotels across the nation are spots where you can plan your vacation around where you’re staying. Explore our 4 recommendations for the best hotels in the US for relaxation.

Hotel Bel-Air, Los Angeles

The Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles is five-star. It’s where celebrities go to get away from it all. And did we mention it’s in Bel-Air? That should be enough to grab your attention, but here’s more reason why this is the place – 12 landscaped acres you can explore to your heart’s content. Plus, the oversized oval pool comes complete with dedicated concierge service – they serve hot fudge sundaes and clean your sunglasses. Still not convinced? There’s a spa by La Prairie and restaurant from Wolfgang Puck himself. There’s even a small lake in the middle of the acreage named Swan Lake that actually has a real swan basking in the waters. Finally, enjoy your cocktails in the bar with live piano music nightly and a warm fire in the hearth.

Greenwich Hotel, New York City

The Greenwich Hotel in New York City is a real escape within the confines of this always-on city. Located in the Tribeca neighborhood, this hotel is members-only, with a drawing room, a private courtyard, and rooms that are distinctive and very much non-hotel. There’s even a Japanese spa and a heated pool. Short of moving in, a must-do activity at Greenwich is sampling the fine Italian fare at Locanda Verde, located inside this eclectic hotel.

Fontainebleau, Miami

The Fontainebleau in Miami is the quintessential they’re-all-famous-and-I’m-not spot. But that’s okay – it’s the perfect spot to blend in because no one else wants to be noticed, either. The spa overlooks the ocean beckoning you to stay long after your treatment. The mineral water, eucalyptus steam bath, and chaise lounges might be to blame.

Scarlet Huntington Hotel, San Francisco

The Scarlet Huntington Hotel in San Francisco sets at the top of Nob Hill. This is one of those spots that hearkens back to simpler yet much more decadent times. While it recently underwent renovations, the heart of this hotel remains. It’s evident in the antiques from the Golden Era, the silken curtains, and the oversized works of art – and the mirrors! So many mirrors. If you decide to leave your room’s sanctuary, you’ll settle in just as nicely in the supple leather furniture in the historied dining room, Big 4.
