It’s one of those iconic cities – the kind that immediately conjure images of eclectic attractions and grunge bands. But this city is more than just the Space Needle and an alternative music scene. Tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft (and, of course, that coffee company, Starbucks) all call Seattle, Washington, home. You’ll even find an amazing museum dedicated to the flight industry. Sure, it gets rainy, but it doesn’t rain all the time, and visiting sites like Snoqualmie Falls in the Pacific Northwest gateway city is well worth it, no matter when you arrive. If you only have a couple of days to spend here, this is where you need to go.
For starters, any newbie Seattle visitor wants to head straight downtown. Explore the Space Needle, right? It’s the most iconic landmark in all of Seattle. It was built in 1962 for that year’s World’s Fair held in the city. This legendary site offers incredible views from the observation deck and dominates the skyline from the ground. It’s definitely the first stop.
Next, a legend in its own right, the Pike Place Market is as famous for its fish as it is for the market’s fishermen who famously entertain locals and visitors alike by literally throwing your purchased fish through the air before wrapping it up for you. The tradition began as a means for speeding up the buying process but once it caught on that it was a form of entertainment, well, the rest is history.
Next door to Pike Place is the very first Starbucks to ever open its doors. Getting a coffee here is just like any other Starbucks, with one main difference – it takes a lot longer because everyone wants a coffee from the first Starbucks!
Finally, round out your visit at the Copperworks Distillery. Taste the wonderful spirits made from locally grown malted barley and distilled on-site in the traditional fashion – in copper stills. Make sure to call an Uber or recruit a non-tipsy friend, as the selection here is astounding and you just might try it all and need a ride back to your hotel.
There is so much to do in and around this iconic city, so take our suggestions and spend a day (or two!) in Seattle.
