Get Out of Dallas for the Weekend To 3 Unique Towns

Get Out of Dallas for the Weekend To 3 Unique Towns

Get out of Dallas for the weekend to 3 unique towns! Dallas is beautiful any time of year, but sometimes you just want to get away. If you’re tired of seeing the same walls and the same streets, check out these 3 unique towns near Dallas for a weekend getaway.

Davis, Oklahoma – 2 hours from Dallas

Fill the tank and head just two hours over the state line into outdoorsy Chicksaw County, home of Davis, Oklahoma. Turner Falls, Oklahoma’s tallest waterfall, is here, too, coming in at a striking 77-feet-tall. The falls pool into a swimming hole that the locals use for cooling off from the heat. Set up a tent or rent one of the cabins at Turner Falls State Park and use your time to go exploring – there are caves for spelunking, or Collings Castle to walk through. If you enjoy off-road two-tracking, stop off at Cross Bar Ranch. Rent an ATV, ride a bike, or take your own off-road vehicle through their many trails.

Fredericksburg – 4 hours from Dallas

Staying in-state for your getaway? Just four hours from Dallas is Fredericksburg, affectionately known as Texas’ wine country. Behind California’s Napa Valley, Fredericksburg is America’s second most-visited wine region. One of the more popular wineries is Bending Branch. It’s on the southern end of town and they’re known for their vintage tannats, made with grapes that thrive in hot, arid climates like Texas. While you’re there, spend some time strolling Fredericksburg’s historic downtown area. The town was founded in the mid-1840s by a baron from Prussia. This is quite apparent in the German notes found around town, especially at the bed and breakfast, Hoffman Haus.

Palo Duro – 6 hours from Dallas

Don’t have time enough for a Grand Canyon adventure? The next best thing, which is literally the next largest canyon in the country, is Palo Duro Canyon, located in the town of the same name. The drive from Dallas makes for an epic road trip, clocking in at just under six hours – don’t let that stop you, though. It’s really worth every single minute, especially when you arrive and greet the awe of a 120-mile-long gash cut nearly 1,000 feet into the earth. You can ride bikes, go hiking, and ride horses on the nearly 90 miels of maintained trails of Palo Duro State Park.

Dallas is a dream, but sometimes you just need to take a break from the same old scenery. Get out of Dallas for the weekend to 3 unique towns!
